Would you like to pursue a PhD or Master's by Research in Australia with tuition-fee support and a living stipend? The University of Western Australia has opened its 2027 International RTP Stipend and Tuition Fee Scholarships for international candidates ready to undertake meaningful research.

What Is the UWA International RTP Scholarship?

The Research Training Program, or RTP, is an Australian Government funding program that supports Higher Degree by Research students. At UWA, the 2027 international scholarship round includes opportunities for a stipend scholarship to assist with living costs and a tuition fee scholarship for successful international candidates selected through a competitive process.

The program supports research students in developing skills for both academic and non-academic careers. Candidates may be considered across all research areas available at UWA.

2027 stipend value: AUD 39,253.30 per annum.
Applications open: 1 August 2026 at 9.00am AWST.
Applications close: 15 September 2026 at 11.59pm AWST.

Scholarship Benefits and Duration

1. Living stipend

Stipend scholarship recipients receive AUD 39,253.30 per annum to help meet living costs while undertaking full-time study and research.

2. Tuition-fee support

An International RTP Tuition Fees Offset Scholarship helps cover HDR tuition fees for the applicable scholarship duration under UWA's official conditions. International tuition-fee scholarships are limited and awarded through a competitive selection process.

3. Funding duration

  • up to two years for Master's by Research candidates;
  • up to three and a half years for doctoral candidates.

Who Can Be Considered?

The round is open to international candidates, including eligible future and current students. To be considered, an applicant must:

  • meet the admission requirements for their chosen Higher Degree by Research course;
  • meet UWA's HDR English-language competence requirements by the application deadline;
  • be available to commence the scholarship within the period advertised for the round;
  • submit a complete application by 15 September 2026 at 11.59pm AWST.

As selection is competitive, meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee a scholarship. A strong academic record, research readiness, project fit, and supervisor alignment are important parts of a well-prepared application.

How to Apply

  1. Select your degree and research area. Choose a Master's by Research or doctoral pathway that aligns with your background and goals.
  2. Identify a potential supervisor. Review UWA academic profiles and establish alignment with your proposed research.
  3. Prepare your academic and research documents. Ensure your transcripts, CV, English-language evidence, references, and research materials meet the requirements.
  4. Apply through UWA's HDR portal. Select the 2027 International Scholarship Round in your application. For new applicants, the same submission is used for admission and RTP scholarship consideration.
  5. Review everything before submission. A complete and consistent application helps the selection team understand the strength of your research profile.

Important: by applying for the 2027 International RTP Stipend and Tuition Fee Scholarships, candidates will automatically be considered for other scholarships available within the same round.
